What is the mission of FIRST®?
Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
Some coaches have trouble bringing the kids around to focus on the research Challenge as much as “playing” with the LEGO® elements. Frequently having a goal will motivate the kids to work on the things that they consider less fun at the beginning. Have the kids make their own goals. Some questions you can ask the team to help facilitate a goal setting meeting are: Are they going to go to an event? What do they need to accomplish before they can participate/attend? If not going to an event, how are they going to show off their work? By having them create their own goals they are more invested in the outcome and getting the entire challenge complete. If there’s no event already set up in your area consider hosting your own! Don’t know how? Check out our Event Guide.
We’d like to know your opinion. Please take a minute to take our poll!
