NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing: Applications open NOW!

Hello Mentors-

High school young women in your community are invited to apply for the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. Please help us publicize this opportunity and encourage candidates to apply. We also ask that you forward this email on to your network of students, teachers and mentors so that each girl has the opportunity to apply for the award.

What is the award?

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing recognizes young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Winners are recognized at an award event here in the community. All applicants will also be considered for the National award.  

Why is the award important?

By generating visibility for technical young women, the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing encourages continued interest in computing, increases awareness of the gender gap in computing and IT, and emphasizes at a personal level the importance of women’s participation in computing. 

What is the role of your organization?

Mentors are asked to promote the Award with their students and encourage girls with accomplishments and aspirations in computing to apply. Please broadcast this opportunity among your staff and to likely candidates.  

What is the application process?

Please direct girls to http://www.aspirationsaward.org. Detailed instructions and eligibility information are found online. 

What is the deadline?

Please notify girls of this opportunity right away. Online applications are open now and must be submitted by 11:59 PM Eastern on October 31, 2012.

Calling all digital divas, web chix, and coder girls!

NCWIT seeks high-school-level young women to apply for the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing! The NCWIT Award forAspirations in Computing honors young women active and interested in computing and encourages them to pursue their passion for technology. Winners get cool prizes, gadgets, and scholarships, and can join a community of like-minded technical women. National award-winners are selected from across the country and Affiliate Award competitions are available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.  All girls at all computing levels are encouraged to apply-we’d like to recognize aspirations, not just accomplishments! 

National award-winners receive:

  •    $500 in cash
  • A laptop computer
  • An engraved award (for both the student and her school)
  • An expenses-paid trip to the national Award ceremony (for the student and her parent/guardian) on March 10, 2012

Competition for the 2013 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing is open to any U.S. high-school-level female (grades 9-12). Applications are being accepted now and must be submitted online at www.aspirationsaward.org no later than 11:59 PM ET on October 31, 2012.  Winners will be announced in December 2012.–
