The new FIRST season has already kicked off for FIRST LEGO League, and FIRST Tech Challenge kicks off this coming Saturday, Sept. 6. Registration for FIRST Robotics Competition is just around the corner, too. We’re serving more youth than ever – over 350,000, with over $20 million in scholarships – providing powerful STEM education experiences that change lives, improve academic experiences, and provide workforce readiness. Now there’s a new way to help support FIRST programs nationwide: the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is a successful annual workplace charity campaign, with almost 200 CFC campaigns throughout the country and overseas raising millions of dollars each year. Pledges made by Federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season (September 1 to December 15) support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.
The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.
Fundraising for charitable organizations in the Federal workplace can be traced to the late-1940’s. However, formal authority to permit fundraising in the Federal workplace was not established until 1961. In signing Executive Order 10927, President John F. Kennedy authorized the U.S. Civil Service Commission to develop guidelines and regulate fundraising in the Federal service.
FIRST is proud to be accepted as an official charity of the CFC. If you know any federal employees, please encourage them to keep an eye out for upcoming events and information in their area.
