2016 FIRST Championship Wrap-Up: Congrats Florida Teams!

FIRST Alumni and graduating seniors

21 teams and dozens of Florida FIRST volunteers and program organizers represented the Sunshine State at the FIRST Championship in St. Louis, which drew over 45,000 attendees, including more than 25,000 students from over 30 countries!

We had originally reported that 19 Florida teams were participating and then learned that the Stallions FIRST Robotics Competition team from South Florida made it in, and also discovered a central Florida FIRST LEGO League Jr. team, the B.E.E.s, were participating.   And everywhere you looked, there was Florida representing: on the field, in the pits, in event production.  So many familiar Florida faces!

There was even a Florida FIRST marriage proposal!

Dean’s List winner, Shanatanu Jakhete, of Team 180, S.P.A.M

following:

  • Dean’s List winner, Shanatanu Jakhete, of Team 180, S.P.A.M., in Stuart
  • FIRST LEGO League Jr. Team 4323, B.E.E.s, of Titusville won an Outstanding Teamwork Award.
  • FIRST Tech Challenge Team 4997, Masquerade,  of Tampa, for being Division Finalists in the Edison Division.

In the FIRST Robotics Competition Championship:

  • Team 233 The Pink Team, of Rockledge/Cocoa Beach, FL won the Team Spirit Award in the Galileo-Carson Division
  • Team 5872 WiredCats, of Davie,  won the Rookie All-Star Award in the Galileo-Carson Division
  • Team 1065, The Moose, from Kissimmee, FL were among subdivision winners in the Gallileo and made it into the semi-finals.
  • Team 180, S.P.A.M.,of Stuart, were  finalists in the Archimedes subdivision.

Wow! Congratulations to all our fine Florida teams who made it to St. Louis, and congratulations to all teams nearly 1200 Florida teams across all our programs, representing over 10,000 youth statewide, for an incredible showing this past season.

Congratulations, too,  and a huge THANK YOU! to all the amazing volunteers who make the success of the youth in our programs possible –  13 million hours of service were completed by FIRST Volunteers – many of whom are educators who act as Coaches, Mentors and more.
